Internet Research Scout: how to export collected HTML snippets into CHM Help file.

With Internet Research Scout you can also save you collection of web snippets to PDF document, HTML, MHT and RSS Feed

This page describes how to save HTML snippets collection into CHM file using Internet Research Scout

CHM Help files (.CHM file extension) are widely used in Windows and provides easy and handy way to read documentation or electronic books.

Internet Research Scout is capable of generating CHM files from collected HTML snippets with images. Internet Research Scout also generates keywords search index so topics in generated CHM book can be navigated by keywords

First download and install Internet Research Scout. If you don't have HTML Help Workshop installed please download it here and install as HTML Help Workshop required for CHM help generation.

If you use Firefox browser then please install (XPI) extension for Firefox so Internet Research Scout can be used from Firefox or Mozilla browsers as well as to capture snippets from web-pages.

Now we will learn how to export snippets into CHM file.

Run Internet Research Scout. You can see tree with folders and snippets. Select the Music Reviews folder. We've used this folder to save snippets from web-pages related to music albums reviews:

Now go to File menu and select Save As CHM command:

CHM options dialog will apear:

Click Continue button to continue

Now select filename for CHM file and click Save button:

The program will generate CHM file and then will open generated CHM book so you can check it:

As you can see generated CHM file contains images and all formatting is preserved (however you can set option to apply custom CSS styles to all snippets included into CHM. Check CHM options dialog for more)

Generated CHM file contains topics and folders (tree-like folders are supported as well). You can view topics by clicking on them or by keyword as Internet Research Scout automatically generates index based on keywords so you can search topics by keywords as shown below:
